United for Wildlife is pleased to announce that Andrea Lattimore and Michella Haddad-Wilkinson have been appointed as the new Co-Chairs of its Financial Taskforce, succeeding Advocate Xolisile Khanyile as she concludes her three-year tenure as Chair.
Andrea Lattimore, Global Director of Compliance and Business Integrity at Vodafone, and Michella Haddad-Wilkinson, Senior Vice President, Complex Investigations at Citi, will jointly govern one of United for Wildlife’s longest-standing and most impactful global cross-sector partnerships.
The United for Wildlife Financial Taskforce brings together financial institutions and emerging financial services organisations, such as cryptocurrency companies, in a shared effort to tackle the financial flows linked to the illegal wildlife trade and environmental crime.
Established through the Mansion House Declaration in 2018, the Taskforce unites financial institutions around a shared commitment to strengthen information sharing, support employee training, and help ensure that financial systems are not used to facilitate or profit from wildlife crime. With more than 70 members across the sector, the Taskforce provides a trusted platform for collaboration and information sharing, helping partners identify and disrupt the criminal networks that profit from wildlife crime.
As Co-Chairs, Andrea and Michella will help convene and inspire the Taskforce’s diverse membership, championing collaboration across organisations and driving collective action against the illegal wildlife trade and environmental crime.
“In June, we saw a significant step forward in ambition and commitment from the financial sector. The Taskforces continue to go from strength to strength as we welcome new members and sectors to help tackle the serious challenge of illegal wildlife crime. A very warm welcome to our new Co-Chairs, who bring decades of experience and will build on the strong foundations and successes achieved to date. I am excited to see what we can achieve together.”
David Fein LVO, Co-Chair, United for Wildlife
Their appointment comes at a significant moment for United for Wildlife as it marks ten years of impact. Over the past decade, the organisation has built a global network dedicated to making it more difficult for criminal networks to transport, finance and profit from the illegal wildlife trade.
As the programme enters its next era, it is introducing an enhanced governance model designed to strengthen its long-term effectiveness and relevance. Alongside the Co-Chairs, a newly established Steering Committee will serve as the Taskforce’s primary governing body, helping to shape strategic priorities and ensure the coalition continues to deliver meaningful impact.
At a time when crimes against wildlife are becoming increasingly sophisticated and interconnected, the need for a platform that brings together financial institutions, industry leaders and partners has never been greater. The Financial Taskforce provides a trusted space for collaboration, helping members strengthen capabilities, share knowledge and work collectively to disrupt the financial networks that enable wildlife trafficking and environmental crime.
The appointments also mark the conclusion of Adv Xolisile Khanyile’s successful three-year tenure as Chair. Under her leadership she expanded the United for Wildlife network to include commitments from 50 countries prioritising financial crimes related to illegal wildlife trade. She was also instrumental in advancing partnerships and commitments from the East and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG), the Egmont Group and Financial Action Taskforce (FATF).
United for Wildlife extends its sincere thanks to Xolisile for her dedication, leadership and contribution to the Taskforce’s success. The organisation is delighted that she will continue to support its mission, taking on the new role of Strategic Advisor for Enforcement Partnerships, building on her previous work by further developing public-private partnerships. United for Wildlife is honoured to retain her expertise and guidance to this important new role.
